Healthy

“Being healthy isn’t just about eating that way. Having a healthy outlook on life counts too.”

When you hear the word healthy, it can make you want to be anything but.

That’s not an option, especially after you’ve had a stroke.

Face it, your health wasn’t that great before it, or you wouldn’t have had one.

Over half of all strokes are caused by high blood pressure/hypertension. The sad thing? Many people don’t even know if they have it or are at risk.  So they go about their daily lives, not knowing that they are at risk for a stroke.

Until they have one.

Then the full-court press to get healthy starts. Eating better food, drinking more water, exercising---but what seems to get forgotten is Mental Health.

How you feel about life, yourself, your recovery, those around you—all of it counts. And make an impact on how healthy you really are.

If it’s positive, it may reduce the risk of another stroke or another cardiac event.

Putting down your fork won’t necessarily solve everything. Making better food choices is always a good idea, but I’m sure you know that. I don’t always make good ones, but I’m trying to get better at it.

How healthy you become depends on how much you want to be.

And what you’re willing to do to get there.

Negative self-talk isn’t healthy, and neither is being around negative people all the time.

Check out local stroke survivor support groups for some tips and resources to help you.

If you have a solid support system that supports your recovery goals, you’re halfway there.
